Matthew Stafford didn’t receive any MVP votes last year despite throwing 41 touchdown passes and totaling 4,886 yards. No one was really expecting him to get MVP votes or be in the running for the award at season’s end, but he showed his value to the Rams in the postseason by leading them to a Super Bowl win.
Heading into next season, Stafford is among the favorites to win MVP, but he’s not necessarily right at the top. According to Tipico Sportsbook, Stafford has the ninth-best odds to win the award at +1500.
The players ahead of Stafford are Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott. Right behind Stafford at +2000 are Deshaun Watson, Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson.
Stafford will need to cut down on the turnovers and lead the Rams to one of the best records in the NFL next season if he’s going to contend for MVP, but he’s more than capable of doing just that. In the playoffs, he had nine touchdown passes and just three picks in four games, averaging 297 yards per game.
