In 2006, the Titans selected defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona out of the University of Tennessee, where he had seven sacks and 77 tackles in his collegiate career.

Mahelona spent just one season with the Titans, appearing in 10 games (one start) during that campaign. He finished with 20 combined tackles and one sack, but was inactive for the final six games. The Hawaii native was released in September 2007.

He had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons that year, playing in one game with the Falcons that proved to be his last in the NFL. He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008, but failed to make the 53-man roster out of training camp.

On the morning of September 5, 2009, Mahelona tragically died in a car accident at the age of 26.
