The Oregon Ducks continue to plug along during the spring football season, with the new coaching staff and new personnel all getting familiar with each other ahead of what should be an excellent season in the fall.
The roster continues to go through changes as well, and the latest is the addition of former Hawaii safety Donovan Dalton, who was on the field for the first time on Tuesday after spring break.
Dalton, who was wearing No. 30 for the Ducks, entered the transfer portal back on November 30 after spending the past four seasons in the Mountain West with the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii.
The Minnesota native played 19 games for Hawaii, totaling 41 tackles, seven passes defended, two tackles for loss, and one interception from 2018-2020. He did not see the field in 2021.
Dalton was familiar with Oregon thanks to coach Trent Figg, who is a new offensive analyst at Oregon but served as the Defensive Backs Coach at Hawaii while Dalton was there.
The previous relationship between Figg and Dalton played a role in Dalton arriving on campus, at least according to head coach Dan Lanning:
“Obviously a good relationship there in the past of what kind of player he was,” Lanning said. “That piece was big.”
Considering the Ducks lost Verone McKinley III and Mykael Wright to the NFL this offseason, any additions to the secondary – especially ones with experience – are welcome as the team gets ready for the fall.
