Projections show a frigid bowl game and old foe for Nebraska

Projections show that Nebraska will be headed to…

As spring practice begins to wind down, everyone looks ahead to the 2022 season. 247Sports has put out their annual projections for the 42-game postseason schedule and, if true, bundle up for the cold Husker fans. Projections show that Nebraska will be headed to the Bronx to participate in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee stadium. It would be Scott Frost’s first bowl game as head coach of Nebraska, and it would be the first time the Cornhuskers have gone bowling since 2016. That year Mike Riley led Nebraska to a 9-3 record and a trip to the Music City Bowl. Unfortunately, the Huskers lost that game 38-24 to Tennessee.

247 has Nebraska matched up against an old postseason foe, the Florida State Seminoles. These two programs had several legendary postseason battles over the year, with none more memorable than the 1994 Orange Bowl. As time expired, Nebraska missed a 45-yard field goal to lose the Orange Bowl and a National Championship. Nebraska has never actually defeated Florida State in postseason play, losing to the Seminoles in the  1988(28-31) and 1990 Fiesta Bowl (17-41) and the 1993 (14-27) and 1994 (16-18) Orange Bowl.

It may not be the most glamorous of bowl games, but it would be nice to see Nebraska play in the postseason again. Now excuse me as I try to forget about the 1994 Orange Bowl.
