Before he became coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, Doc Rivers spent seven seasons coaching the Los Angeles Clippers. During those seven seasons, Rivers did a helluva job of turning the Clippers into a free agency destination and he did a great job of turning the culture around there.
Rivers also had to navigate through an ugly situation surrounding ex-owner Donald Sterling whose racist behavior was brought to light in the 2014 playoffs. Rivers had to keep the Clippers together amid the despicable moment and he did a terrific job in LA.
Per Variety’s Joe Otterson, FX is going to have a behind-the-scenes look at that Clippers team with actor Laurence Fishburne playing the role of Rivers during the series.
Per Otterson:
The six-episode series tells the behind the scenes story of Doc Rivers (Fishburne) and the Los Angeles Clippers’ quest to bring a championship to one of the historically worst franchises in all of sports during the impending downfall of the team’s owner, Donald Sterling, whose notoriously racist behavior is brought to light amid the power struggle between his wife of 60+ years, Shelly Sterling (Weaver), and his mistress, V. Stiviano.
Currently, Rivers and the Sixers are looking to get everything right before the playoffs begin on April 16. They have four games left in the season.
