Former A&M safety back in the league after two years out

Former Texas A&M safety Justin Evans gets a second chance in the NFL

Justin Evans was a standout safety at Texas A&M from 2015-2016, posting 165 tackles, and 5 interceptions in the two seasons. This outstanding production, along with Evans almost ideal size (6-1 195) led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to select the safety in the 2nd round with the 50th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Evans played 24 games in his first two seasons in Tampa Bay, continuing to be productive, with 4 interceptions and 125 tackles in 2018-2019. But unfortunately for Evans, and the Bucs, injury problems ran rampant through his first two seasons as he finished both years on injured reserve. In 2019 alone, he was placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the season and then wound up on injured reserve again with an achilles injury that cost him the 2019 and 2020 seasons, before he was waived from the Buccaneers in December 2020.

But now, Evans is healthy and ready to go, and the New Orleans Saints have signed him to a one year contract.

Second chances like this in the NFL are rare, let’s hope Evans can take full advantage of his.
