DETROIT — When the Philadelphia 76ers acquired James Harden on Feb. 10, one of the questions on the minds of a lot of people was how he would affect the role of Tobias Harris.
Before Harden, the Sixers counted on Harris to be their No. 2 option and a big part of the scoring effort every night. With Harden, the Sixers need Harris to be more of a floor spacer and be ready to shoot the ball off the catch.
After a slow adjustment, he has begun to figure it out. He is shooting 53.1% from the floor and 42.9% from deep over his last 12 games. His success has been the result of a lot of hard work in the gym.
“Just being obviously consistent with the work of catching and shooting and just playing off of the opportunities,” said Harris. “It’s just a matter of time to get the flow and as you continue to develop as a group and you continue to move the ball around and find easy matchups and plays, things will become more easy for guys on the floor.”
The Sixers will continue to count on Harris to be the guy Harden can kick out to when he drives the paint. When Harris can get involved like this, it makes the offense that much more dangerous as he is another guy who can add a layer on that end.
“For me, it’s just about figuring out those spots,” Harris stated. “It’s added work, but at the same time, it’s added opportunity of things that complement my game.”
