Stefanski hopes for resolution to Mayfield ‘situation’ and ‘soon’

The sooner the better for Stefanski but can the team get something done before offseason activities start next month?

Kevin Stefanski may not have spoken for a lot of fans of the Cleveland Browns when he said he “like(s)” Odell Beckham Jr. but may have matched up with the fanbase in two different areas. He talked about his love for Jarvis Landry the player and person, which most fans would agree with.

He also talked about his starting quarterback for the first two years as head coach, Baker Mayfield. While many fans loved the former top overall pick, resolution would be appreciated. Mayfield is in an interesting situation for a team that seemed to have said all the right things about getting behind him but then pursued Deshaun Watson.

Had the Browns not have acquired Watson, Mayfield may have tried to sit out the offseason to seek a trade but, with Watson on board, he is almost certainly gone from the team. Stefanski alluded to as much earlier today:

“I think everyone understands the situation, and we’re hoping that it is resolved soon,” Stefanski said.

The resolution hoped for is a trade but it will be interesting if other teams are willing to help Cleveland out. His almost $19 million contract will likely require the Browns to pay a decent portion of it to get anything of value in return.

With the team’s offseason activities starting in mid-April, Cleveland and Mayfield are likely hoping for a resolution prior to that date.
