Signing ILB Bobby Wagner is a no-brainer for Ravens if price is right

Signing inside linebacker Bobby Wagner is a no-brainer for the Ravens if the price is right

The Baltimore Ravens are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2021 season that saw them go 8-9 and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They have already made a few moves to shore up their roster, but a player who reportedly visited with the team on Friday could make a massive impact if brought into the organization.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, inside linebacker Bobby Wagner made his way to Baltimore to meet with the Ravens. Wagner was released by the Seattle Seahawks after spending 10 years with the organization, earning six All-Pro honors and many more accolades.

Despite the fact that he’ll turn 32 years old by the time the 2022 season begins, Wagner is still one of the best players at his position. He is a great tackler, solid in coverage, and would provide Baltimore with a true field general in the middle of their defense. The veteran also has championship experience, winning one Super Bowl and playing in another with Seattle.

The Ravens’ free agent moves so far have consisted of signing safety Marcus Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, defensive lineman Michael Pierce and re-signing fullback Patrick Ricard. They’ve done a good job of shoring up some of their needs, but there are still others that need to be filled, including the inside linebacker position.

At this point in the offseason, Baltimore should still be looking to add another “needle mover” to their team, especially after now-Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith spurned the team at the last minute. While the Ravens do have bigger needs such as on the edge and at cornerback to name a few, inside linebacker is an area where they would benefit from adding a star.
