UNC punches ticket to Elite 8 with win over UCLA

UNC Basketball guard Caleb Love came up big to send the Tar Heels to the Elite 8 against St. Peter’s.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are feeling Elite.

Following their 73-66 win over UCLA on Friday night, the Tar Heels have officially punched their ticket to the Elite 8 and will meet No. 15 St. Peter’s on Sunday afternoon.

In a fast-paced game that went back and forth for most of it, UNC prevailed late backed by a big second half from Caleb Love. The guard scored 27 of his 30 points in the second half to help UNC grab a lead late and not look back.

Love drained a 3 with 1:06 left in the game to give UNC a 67-64 lead and then made two key free throws late to extend the lead to 71-66 and eventually sealed the deal for the Tar Heels. The win is huge for UNC as they are now one game away from the Final Four.

All that’s standing in their way is this year’s Cinderella team, St. Peter’s who has knocked off Kentucky, Murray State and now Purdue to get a No 15 seed to the Elite 8 for the first time in history.

Sunday’s game will be the late one in Philadelphia.
