Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden knows a thing or two about winning the MVP award. He took home the honors in 2018 while with the Houston Rockets and while playing with new teammate Joel Embiid, he sees an MVP in the big man.
Embiid has been having an incredible season averaging 29.8 points and 11.3 rebounds along with 4.3 assists while throwing the Sixers on his back on an everyday basis. The Sixers were the No. 3 seed in the East heading into the All-Star break before Harden joined the team. That is very impressive when considering the Sixers were missing Ben Simmons and dealing with that saga as well.
Harden sat down with Ramona Shelburne of ESPN and said his new teammate should win the MVP award:
“He deserves it, man,” Harden told ESPN. “I’ve only been here for a few weeks, but I already see his mindset. He wants to win. Some guys just want numbers, but he has both. He has the mentality of winning, and he scores the ball at a high level. I think he’s prepared himself, especially coming off last year, for this year to be one of his best years.”
The Sixers will go as far as Embiid takes them. Regardless of what Harden brings to the table, this will all fall on the big fella and how dominant he can be while out on the floor. The Sixers will need more of that type of play from the MVP candidate the rest of the way.
