Report: Colts to meet in person with UTSA CB Tariq Woolen

The Colts have their eyes on a high-upside CB prospect.

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly meeting in person with former UTSA cornerback Tariq Woolen ahead of the 2022 NFL draft.

After trading away Rock Ya-Sin for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, the cornerback position is a relatively big need. Woolen is one of the highest-upside prospects at the cornerback position because of his athleticism.

Woolen checks all of the boxes that Chris Ballard targets in his cornerbacks. At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Woolen has the size to play on the boundary. His arm length (33 5/8 inches), 40-yard dash (4.26) and vertical (42 inches) all meet what Ballard likes.

His 9.86 relative athletic score (RAS) brings athletic comparables such as Jalen Ramsey and Marshon Lattimore, to name a few.

The fifth-year senior only recorded two interceptions during his career with UTSA after switching from wide receiver to cornerback starting in the 2020 season.

Woolen is an extremely raw prospect but when it comes to his potential, many teams will have their eyes on him during Day 2 of the draft. He has the athletic traits that can’t be taught and with time could turn into a solid starting corner.

The Colts would have to use either pick No. 42 or No. 73 if they wanted to get Woolen in the draft so this will certainly be a storyline to keep an eye on.
