Jets offer to Chiefs for WR Tyreek Hill didn’t include a first-round draft pick

Don’t let anyone tell you the #Jets offered the #Chiefs more for WR Tyreek Hill than the #Dolphins.

Two teams were reportedly in the running to acquire Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill — the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.

Hill ended up with the Dolphins, but the Jets had also submitted an offer to Kansas City. Because a deal was contingent on Hill signing a contract extension, he essentially was able to choose his own destination. Well, it looks like he chose the right spot for his former team based on the trade compensation.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the offer from New York didn’t include a first-round draft pick. Instead, it was a compilation of draft picks that added up to a similar value per the NFL commonly accepted trade value chart.

Had Hill chosen to go to the Jets, the Chiefs would have received picks No. 35, 38 and 69 in the 2022 NFL draft. In return, the team would have sent Hill and picks No. 103.

The Chiefs, instead, got a haul of draft picks from Miami. Picks from both teams roughly translate to the same amount on the NFL’s trade value chart (around 1,227 points). That said, the optics of the deal with the Dolphins looks much better than it would have if Hill had been traded to the Jets. There were some reports that said New York was willing to part with pick No. 10, but it doesn’t seem like they were willing to sweeten the pot in order to land Hill. Perhaps they should have been willing because now they’ll have to play against him twice a year in the AFC East.
