After a second-half collision with Walker Kessler, Jaylin Williams’s status is uncertain for the Tigers’ second-round game against Miami.
Speaking after Auburn’s 80-61 win over Jacksonville State, head coach Bruce Pearl said Williams will require more work Friday after Kessler accidentally elbowed him in the mouth, chipping his teeth.
“Jaylin is going to get some work done today,” Pearl said. “They’re going to have to obviously evaluate him, and he’s going to have to go through a concussion protocol because of the hit. So we really don’t know.”
Williams had eight points and made all three of his shots before colliding with Kessler with 14:28 left in the game. Kessler went to the locker room with a bloody elbow and said he was unsure what happened.
“I’m not really sure,” Kessler said. “I just know that I wanted to block it and got pushed back and made contact with him.”
Kessler would return to the game while Williams stayed in the locker room. William averages 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Auburn is set to play Miami on Sunday.
