It was a move that many Gator fans felt coming but few had a clue it would pan out as it did. Prior to the NCAA Tournament selection committee’s bracket reveal on Sunday, it was reported that Florida basketball head coach Mike White is trading in his orange and blue attire for black and red, leaving Gainesville for Athens to take over for Tom Crean with the Georgia Bulldogs.
The fact that White left the Gators was hardly a shock but his destination felt like a slap in the face to many — and perhaps it was. However, the silver lining is that both parties are now absolved in what was clearly becoming a toxic environment for the 45-year-old skipper. The critics got what they want and White got a clean exit, plus the Bulldogs have a new coach with both youth and experience. Wins all around!
