After nailing down one offensive line upgrade in free agency, the Cincinnati Bengals turned around on Monday and did another with offensive lineman Ted Karras.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it’s a three-year deal worth $18 million.
Karras, 28, has experience at guard and center, offering an upgrade at either spot on the line in front of Joe Burrow.
A former sixth-rounder, Karras spent four years in New England, then one in Miami before going back to the Patriots. He filled in as the starting left guard on more than 800 snaps last season, earning a 72.8 PFF grade with just three sacks allowed.
Interestingly, Karras could end up being a starter at guard or center, depending on what else the Bengals do. Playing him at center could mean cutting current starter Trey Hopkins, which would free up roughly $6 million in cap space.
