Jets Super Bowl winner Jim Richards dies at age 75

Jim Richards, who played on the Jets’ Super Bowl III team, died at the age of 75.

Former Jets defensive back and special teams gunner Jim Richards died at the age of 75 on March 8, 2022, the team announced.

Richards played two seasons with the Jets from 1968-1969 and helped them win Super Bowl III with two special teams tackles against the Baltimore Colts. While Richards saw most of his action on special teams, he did start nine games at safety for New York in 1969.

Richards ended up playing 29 games for the Jets and finished with three interceptions, a blocked punt and a blocked punt return for a touchdown. He also averaged 14.3 yards per punt return in 1968 and 18.0 yards per kick return in 1969.
