Colorado Rapids vs. Sporting KC odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado Rapids vs. Sporting KC odds and lines, with MLS picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rapids (1 win, 1 loss, 0 draws) welcome Sporting KC (1-1-0) to DSG Park Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the Colorado Rapids vs. Sporting KC odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

The Rapids beat Atlanta 3-0 at home despite being out-possessed and out-shot last weekend after a demoralizing 3-0 loss on the road to LAFC to open the season.

The Rapids are led in the attacking third by F Jonathan Lewis who had 7 goals in 27 matches played last season. Colorado relied heavily on its defense a season ago as it gave up 35 goals in 34 games.

Sporting KC finished third in the Western Conference a season ago, 3 points behind top-ranked Colorado. Sporting lost on the road 3-1 to Atlanta to open the season and then took down Houston 1-0 at home last Saturday.

Sporting is led by F Dániel Sallói who has 1 goal and 7 shot-creating actions through two games.

Prediction

Colorado 2, Sporting KC 1

Money line (ML)

LEAN to COLORADO (-122).

The Rapids made a late surge last season and finished atop the Western Conference because of their dominance at home.

They won 9 games at home, drew 7 and had just 1 loss. It seems like they’re picking up right where they left off, having lost on the road but destroyed a team at home that beat Sporting KC.

Sporting KC is similar as it was destroyed in Atlanta and then won at home. Playing on the road wasn’t a strong point for Sporting last season either as they lost 7 of 17 road matches.

Given the odds, I’ll take the home side in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 2.5 (-115).

Colorado is 2-0 this season on the Over 2.5. Its defense, which was among the most dominant in the MLS, doesn’t seem elite, having given up 3 goals through 2 games. Colorado has also scored 3 goals.

The only game between the two teams that would’ve missed this total was Sporting’s 1-0 win over Houston, a game that had 8 shots on goal.

Considering that and the weakened defenses from a season ago, I expect an abundance of opportunities.
