The Jacksonville Jaguars made a roster transaction Thursday and signed offensive tackle Brandon Murphy.
Murphy, who is 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, joins the Jags after playing in the Spring League last year with the Sea Lions. Before that, he spent a season on The University of Memphis’ football team after playing basketball at Indiana State for five seasons (2014-18). Overall, he took the court for 114 games while with Indiana State and averaged 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds as a senior.
The Jags thought that his athleticism stood out and figured he deserved a shot in the NFL. When the team takes the field, Murphy could be battling for a backup tackle spot as the Jags could lose reserve Will Richardson as he’s a pending free agent. The other tackles who are listed on the Jags’ roster include Coy Cronk and Badara Traore, who spent time on the Jags’ practice squad in 2021.
