It’s not often that classic like Chrono Trigger inexplicably gets an update, but here we are.
On Wednesday, Square Enix released a patch for the PC and Mobile versions of Chrono Trigger, somewhat out of nowhere too. There’s not been an update to this version since 2018. The company outlined what’s in the update on Chrono Trigger’s Steam forums.
Chrono Trigger March 2022 Update
- Ultrawide 21:9 support
- Fullscreen support
- Screen Mode options
- Improved directional pad controls and design
- Exclamation points display for interaction prompts
- Auto Battle speed boost increase by x1.5
- Automatically continue Auto Battles settings in the next fight
- Battle speed adjustment is possible in menus
- Save slots increased to 20.
- Extras section now in mobile versions
There’s also a new trailer which you can watch below. Imagine telling someone from 1995 that there’d be Chrono Trigger announcements in 2022.
A new update for Chrono Trigger is here!

Square Enix has been putting quite a bit of effort into remastering classic JRPGs lately. The Final Fantasy 6 pixel remaster and Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers Edition are the most recent examples. Hopefully, more companies will follow suit since many of these games are hard to find anywhere other than wildly expensive listings on reselling sites like eBay. Please, Capcom, release the original PS1 Resident Evil games on a modern storefront. I am begging.
