Boston College OL Zion Johnson, who was recently mocked to the Cincinnati Bengals by Luke Easterling, confirmed his status as a genetic outlier at the Scouting Combine.
Johnson was one of just a handful of players that actually took part in the bench press Friday, as many players are opting out of benching, due in part to the new, rigorous drill schedule for the players of benching and on-field drills on the same day. In the past, players would be on the field the day after benching.
Johnson took the bench by storm, posting 32 reps of 225 pounds. And the best part? He did it barefoot.
Thanks to his great week at the Senior Bowl and now his performance today, Johnson may have solidified his status as a first-round pick. In fact, there’s probably a chance now he may not even be on the board when the Bengals select at No. 31. If he is, he makes even more sense for the Bengals now.
