If Amari Cooper becomes available, Bears fans want him in Chicago

It appears that Amari Cooper’s days as a Cowboy are numbered, which already has Bears fans clamoring to pair Cooper with Justin Fields.

It’s no secret the Bears are going to be focusing on improving the wide receiver position this offseason when free agency opens after everyone not named Darnell Mooney disappointed in 2021. Names like Chris Godwin, Christian Kirk, D.J. Chark, and Michael Gallup have been floated as possibilities, though many of those players are rehabbing significant injuries.

The Bears do have a number of their own receviers who are set to become free agents as well, including Allen Robinson, but it appears the ship has sailed on any notable re-signings. But if a recent report comes to fruition, another big-named receiver might hit the market soon that Bears fans are all in on.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are “likely” to cut wide receiver Amari Cooper by the time the new league year begins.

Cooper is a four-time Pro Bowl receiver who began his career with the the Raiders in 2015. He was traded to the Cowboys in 2018 and signed a five-year, $100 million extension in 2020. He’s had three seasons with over 1,000 yards since coming to the Cowboys and scored 27 touchdowns. Though he’s still a productive receiver at 27-years old, releasing him would save Dallas over $50 million across the next three seasons.

While Cooper’s release isn’t imminent, it appears as if his days as a Cowboy are numbered, which means fans of other teams are getting excited about the prospects of him becoming a free agent, including the Bears.
