Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux would ‘love’ to play for Texans coach Lovie Smith

Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux says that he would “love” to play for Houston Texans coach Lovie Smith, and relishes chance to be Jadeveon Clowney 2.0.

Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson would love to play for the Houston Texans, and now there is another top pass rusher from the 2022 NFL draft class who has a strong affinity for the AFC South club.

According to Cole Thompson from Sports Illustrated, Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux told reporters Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine that he would “love to be in Houston.”

“I’d love to play in that Lovie Smith system,” Thibodeaux said. “That’s close to home. That’s not too far. I love the sun out there.”

The All-American is familiar with the history of pass rushers in Houston, but compared himself to former 2014 first-round edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

“He’s a guy who was great, but he didn’t have all the skills and tools as far as pass rush skills and things like that,” Thibodeaux said. “I’m like Jadeveon 2.0, right?”

If Thibodeaux comes to Houston, Texans fans are hopeful his career arc won’t be Clowney 2.0. However, playing in Smith’s Tampa 2 scheme should provide Thibodeaux plenty of chances to ensure he reaches his potential in the NFL.
