An illustrious high school career ends, and a new chapter begins for Arkansas signee Barry Dunning Jr.
Dunning, the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Alabama, had his prep career at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School come to a close Wednesday following their 62-58 loss to Huffman High School at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
Dunning’s squad fought back from a 14-point deficit with 3:55 remaining in the 3rd quarter to stage a powerful comeback. Dunning’s layup with 7:33 remaining in the 4th period erased Huffman’s 14-point cushion, giving McGill-Toolen the 46-45 lead. McGill-Toolen would grab one more lead with less than 90-seconds remaining in the contest, but a foul and two made free throws put Huffman up for good.
Although his season ended one game before he had wanted, Dunning did end his career on a positive note. He grabbed one last double-double, scoring 25 points and securing 18 rebounds.
