Florida still teetering on the bubble in Lunardi’s bracketology

This bracketology was released before the Vandy game but Florida’s status is still very much the same.

Florida basketball scored a big road win on Tuesday against the Vanderbilt Commodores to keep its NCAA Tournament aspirations alive. Now with just one game remaining in the regular season — against the Kentucky Wildcats, no less — the Gators’ postseason hopes remain on the ropes thanks to a less-than-stellar résumé.

The general consensus among the sports media at large is that Florida is either on the March Madness bubble or is on the outside looking in. Joe Lunardi at ESPN has been tracking the Gators’ path to the Big Dance in his bracketology updates, the last of which came ahead of Tuesday nights’ game, and while he thinks UF remains in the discussion, there has not been a whole lot of ground gained over the last couple of weeks.

The Gators currently are listed under “Next Four Out” along with the Virginia Tech Hokies, St. Bonaventure Bonnies and Dayton Flyers. A win against UK, which would give Florida another Quadrant 1 victory, could bump it up a tier or two, but there is no guarantee that it will clinch a tourney bid. It is most likely that UF will need to score an upset or two in the SEC Tournament to secure its spot in the March festivities.
