Over the course of the next two months, the Indianapolis Colts will be meeting and conversing with hundreds of prospects entering the 2022 NFL draft.
To say a player has met or talked with the Colts isn’t huge news. They’ll meet with so many that it will eventually become just a formality. However, one intriguing name in the form of Purdue’s David Bell confirmed at the NFL combine that he’s had “preliminary conversations” with the team already.
David Bell says he has already had preliminary conversations with the Colts a couple of weeks ago. …
A disclaimer: Indy is going to talk with just about everybody at some point during this process.
But figured I’d pass it along anyway.

Bell figures to be one of the top wide receiver prospects in this year’s draft class but he’s one of the top options that might be available to the Colts when they’re on the clock for the first time at the No. 47 overall pick.
Even with the breakout campaign of Michael Pittman Jr., the Colts need to add more weapons to the passing game. Bell would be an ideal fit as a possession receiver who can make plays over the middle of the field—something the Colts lacked in a major way in 2021.
In 11 games during the 2021 season, Bell recorded 93 receptions for 1,286 receiving yard and six touchdowns. He was a monster in the biggest games of the year for Purdue.
That included performances of 240 and 217 yards against Iowa and Michigan State, respectively. He had over 100 receiving yards in seven of his games in 2021.
With suction-cup hands, Bell levels no concern when it comes to securing receptions. The biggest question he will have to answer will be his speed. The 40-yard dash could severely boost his stock.
The Colts will have their eyes on plenty of receivers in this class, especially considering the depth at which they can grab a quality prospect on Day 2.
But if they can land Bell in the second round, it would be a pretty big win for the passing game.
