The Denver Broncos appear poised to add at least one quarterback to the roster this offseason, but Drew Lock might not be on his way out of town.
While speaking to Denver-based media members who traveled to Indianapolis for the NFL combine, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said Tuesday that he’s eager to work with Lock this offseason.
“I’m really excited to work with Drew, I really am,” Hackett said, via KOA Radio’s Brandon Krisztal. “You look back at his past, he’s had a lot of different systems. In my past, working with quarterbacks that have been through a lot of systems, it’s difficult because what do they believe in? You go out there and you’ve had one guy say this, he had another guy say this, or do this footwork or do that.
“In the end, we just want those guys to go out there and play. So I think it’s a clean slate for everybody and I’m excited to see him. He’s a talented kid . . . I’m very excited to work with him.”
Lock played under two different offensive coordinators, Rich Scangarello and Pat Shurmur, from 2019-2021. His fourth season in the NFL will feature a third OC in Justin Outten.
Unless the Broncos ship Lock out via trade, the quarterback will have at least one more season in Denver, and he might get an opportunity to compete for the starting job this offseason. It might be his last chance, but with a new coaching staff, that’s all Lock can hope for — a chance.
