The Arizona Cardinals’ honeymoon period with star quarterback Kyler Murray is clearly over, and now, even the father of the franchise’s best-ever player is piling on.
Murray’s agent released a lengthy statement on Monday to sound off about the sour situation with the Cardinals. Though the impossible-to-read font and hilarious wordiness were fun on Twitter, Murray aimed to tell Cardinals leadership that he wanted to be paid in a way that showed their long-term commitment.
The statement didn’t go over well with plenty of Cardinals fans, and Larry Fitzgerald’s father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., called Murray “spoiled” in a tweet on Tuesday.
Fitzgerald Sr. also added that Murray had “never been humbled.”
Fitzgerald Sr.’s comments weren’t exactly fair to Murray. Like, how is he spoiled? What does “never been humbled” even mean as a criticism? But it does mean something when Larry Fitzgerald’s father puts it out there for everyone to see. The longtime Cardinals receiver didn’t play last season despite not officially announcing his retirement. But it doesn’t seem like he shares his father’s opinion about Murray.
A couple weeks ago, he was asked about the Cardinals-Murray drama and basically wished the best for both parties. He said via ESPN:
“I haven’t talked to Kyler in a while but he looked good in the Pro Bowl, looked like he was having a great time, throwing touchdowns out there. I just hope everything works out the way both sides want it to work out. That’s really what it’s all about for me. I love Kyler, I love the Cardinals and I want the best for everybody.”
Still, it doesn’t help anyone to have Fitzgerald Sr. blasting Murray in random Twitter mentions. Murray, who’s very much online, will almost definitely take notice.
