There is no underselling just how much hype surrounds Penn State’s newest running back in the Class of 2022, Nicholas Singleton. One of the most highly decorated recruits in Penn State history coming out of high school, Singleton is now making a solid first impression in Penn State’s offseason workouts leading into spring football practices.
Singleton was among those recognized by the Penn State coaching staff on Twitter on Thursday. Running backs coach JaJuan Seider called Singleton the winner of the day among the running backs, a feat that was likely to be expected at some point but no less satisfying to see. Given the expectations for Singleton’s career at Penn State, knowing that his position coach is seeing good things this early on is unquestionably encouraging to see.

Singleton was named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year and the Maxwell Football Club’s national offensive player of the year. It remains to be seen just how long it will be until Singleton fully becomes the featured running back for the Penn State offense, which is expected at some point for him in his future with the program. Although Penn State’s most alarming struggles came with running the football in 2021, the Nittany Lions do return Keyvone Lee with plenty of potential to be a primary back. Spring practices will have the running back situation under a bit of a microscope, as well as the offensive line.
Lee has previously received multiple shoutouts from Seider as winter workouts commenced. He is still the projected starter at the position for the upcoming season.
