Ravens re-sign S Tony Jefferson

The Ravens announced that they are re-signing safety Tony Jefferson

The Baltimore Ravens announced that they are are re-signing safety Tony Jefferson. The veteran was signed late in the 2021 season to the practice squad because the Ravens’ secondary was severely depleted due to injuries as well as COVID-19. His familiarity with then-defensive coordinator Don Martindale’s defense made it easy for him to make it to the active roster after getting back into football playing shape.

Jefferson was with the Ravens from 2017 to 2019 but was released from the team in February of 2020 after tearing his ACL during the 2019 season.  He signed with the San Fransisco 49ers in the offseason, was released, and eventually made his way back to Baltimore.

After missing almost two seasons, Jefferson played in six total games in 2021, two with the 49ers and four with the Ravens.  In those six games, Jefferson totaled 18 tackles, one sack, one pass defensed, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for loss.

By signing Jefferson for another year, it gives the Ravens more depth and it provides the defense with more veteran leadership on the field and in the locker room.
