As the world continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of attention has been placed upon Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving who, of course, has chosen not to get the vaccine. Due to New York City rules, that means he can’t play in home games at the Barclays Center.
The Nets decided to sit Irving out at the beginning of the season as there was no point in having him as a part-time player at that point. However, they have since welcomed him back into the fold as he plays in just road games where he can play without being vaccinated. He is averaging 24.1 points and 5.4 assists in 14 games in the 2021-22 season.
However, the city of New York now seems to have a plan to phase out the vaccine mandate which would allow Irving to play in games at home again. NYC mayor Eric Adams had a statement mentioning that the city will have to continue reaching CDC benchmarks.

The Nets would be in a much better spot to compete for a title with Irving, Kevin Durant, and Ben Simmons all out on the floor together. This would be highly significant if New York were to remove this mandate.
