The identity phase of Billy Napier‘s offseason program is in full swing, and the new head coach at Florida brought in one of the best to wear the Orange and Blue to speak with the team.
Heisman Trophy winner and Gators legend Danny Wuerffel was in Gainesville on Monday to attend the First-Year Coach Award ceremony at Steve Spurrier’s restaurant. He spent much of his time meeting with coaches and players before heading to the ceremony and even returned on Tuesday to spend more time around the facilities.
The Florida Gators Football Twitter account captured some of what Wuerffel said to the team on video and used the words to define identity, phase two of Napier’s offseason plan.

Wuerffel’s main message to the team was that the group is bigger than each individual player on their own. Who better to hear that from than the man who led the Gators to their first national championship?
“We live in a culture where everything is about how big you are, but none of you is more important than anybody else in the world,” Wuerffel said. “The best thing you can do is be the best teammate you can be. If you get a group of people together that actually believe that it’s not about you and no one of you is that important, magic can happen.”
Both Napier and Wuerffel have experienced that magic before. Now the goal is to get this current crop of Gators to share similar experiences and truly be a great football team.
Wuerffel tweeted out his excitement about the new staff following the completion of the 2022 national signing day class, and he’s done his part to help the new coach gain the trust of those who were on campus before him.
