Jabari Smith wins fifth SEC Freshman of the Week award

This is becoming the Jabari Smith Award.

Jabari Smith has been recognized by the SEC yet again.

Auburn’s superstar freshman had the best week of his career and was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season. He averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and made 11-of-15 3-point attempts in the two games.

Smith started the week with career-high 31-points against Vanderbilt. After missing his first two 3-point attempts he made his next seven to lead Auburn to the win. He also added four rebounds and three assists.

He became the first Auburn player to score 30 points since Samir Doughty did so against Tennessee on March 7, 2000. He was the first freshman to do so since Toney Douglas did so three times during the 2004-05 season.

He followed up this performance by scoring 28 points in the loss to Florida. He continued his great work from deep, making 4-of-5 attempts and grabbing seven rebounds.

Smith and Auburn will return to action Wednesday night in Auburn Arena against Ole Miss. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
