Ravens star CB named as player who should be on trade watch by Bleacher Report

A star Ravens cornerback was named as a potential trade candidate by Bleacher Report

The Baltimore Ravens have talent up and down their roster. However, they will most likely have to make some tough decisions when it comes to who stays and who goes during the 2022 offseason.

When looking at players who should be on trade watch this offseason, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report chose Marcus Peters as one of his candidates. When explaining why, Davenport talked about Baltimore’s salary cap situation and the injury that Peters suffered just days before the 2021 season began.

“…Peters missed the entirety of 2021 and is entering the final season of the three-year, $42 million extension he signed after joining the Ravens via trade in 2019…There’s also the matter of Baltimore’s precarious salary-cap situation. The Ravens have $3.7 million in projected cap space. But that’s without taking into account Baltimore’s free agents (who include a younger corner in Anthony Averett) and the megaextension looming for quarterback Lamar Jackson.”

Peters is slated to have a $15. 5 million cap hit in 2022, and would save the Ravens $10 million if released. However, in the case of a trade, he could bring back some valuable draft capital while also shedding salary.

The issue with trading Peters is that it would leave a massive hole in the Ravens’ secondary both on and off of the field. He is a valued member of the organization, and if he is let go it makes sense that the team would just spend that $10 million in savings on another cornerback to replace him. It seems unlikely that Peters is moved this offseason, especially after general manager Eric DeCosta’s very public endorsement of the cornerback.
