A solid stretch of basketball for the Tigers was interrupted against South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. The Gamecocks won 77-75 after overcoming a slow start and an early 14-point deficit.
LSU was already on the outside looking in as far as last week’s Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, but it did receive eight votes. But after losing to an SEC middleweight (albeit on the road), the Tigers are no longer even receiving votes in the latest update.
This week’s poll saw a shakeup around the SEC as Auburn has dropped to No. 4 after it was upset on the road by Florida. The loss marked the Tigers’ second loss in conference play, and they’ve now fallen behind Kentucky, who lost to Tennessee in the midweek game but bounced back with a win over Alabama in Rupp Arena on Saturday. The Wildcats remain at No. 3.
While the Vols sprung a big home upset this week, they still fell four spots to No. 17 after falling on the road to Arkansas, who sits just behind them at No. 18. Finally, the Crimson Tide are back in the top 25 despite the loss to UK.
