It’s a fair and accurate statement to say that Texas has one of the deepest running back rooms in the nation.
However, after the 2022 season Texas could end up losing two of their top ball carriers to the NFL in Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson. Both of them have an extra year of eligibility after 2022, but there is a world in which they both declare for the draft.
This means Texas needs to start reloading the running back room. After Robinson and Johnson leave, it will likely be headlined by Keilan Robinson, Johnathan Brooks and Jaydon Blue.
The Longhorns will not have to look far for their next talented running back, as 2023 five-star and former Texas commit, Rueben Owens, is in their backyard. He flashed his receiver skills during a recent 7-on-7 event for the Texas Stars, something that would surely help him shine at Texas as Steve Sarkisian loves using running backs in the passing game.
Here are a couple of his best plays from the event:

Owens has been on an absolute terror during his high school career, rushing for over 5,300 yards and 76 rushing touchdowns. The Longhorns seem to be in good standing with Owens based on recent comments, but they likely need to keep pushing and show an improved product on the field to gain his services.
