Tennessee’s men’s tennis team opened the ITA Indoor National Championships with a victory over Texas A&M Friday in Seattle, Washington.
The No. 2 Volunteers defeated No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-0, at the Seattle Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Vols (9-1) won its doubles point in two matches against Texas A&M (6-1).
Shunsuke Mitsui and Emile Hudd, the No. 13 doubles tandem in the nation, defeated No. 33 Noah Schacter and Austin Abbrat, 7-5.
Johannus Monday and Mark Wallner outlasted the Aggies’ duo of Raphael Perot and Giulio, 6-4.
In singles, Adam Walton (No. 21) defeated Schacter, 6-2, 6-0.
No. 10 Monday prevailed in the second singles slot as he defeated Pierce Rollins, 6-2, 6-2.
Mitsui (No. 114) captured an upset victory as he downed No. 105 Guido Marson, 6-1, 6-0.
The Vols return to action Saturday against South Carolina at 3 p.m. EST. The Gamecocks are the No. 11 seed in the tournament.
