Celtics legend Bill Russell getting his own Netflix documentary

The film will cover not only Russell’s unparalleled winning in the NBA, but his career as a civil rights activist and humanitarian.

The greatest winner in the history of sports — never mind the NBA — is finally getting his own Netflix documentary. That is of course for the uninitiated Hall of Fame Boston Celtics big man Bill Russell, winner of 11 NBA championships as a player or player-coach, per Variety’s Angelique Jackson.

The documentary (as of yet unnamed) will cover not only the iconic career of the legendary Celtic, but also his life off the court as a civil rights champion, Olympic athlete, and humanitarian. Directed by Oscar nominee Sam Pollard and produced by High Five Productions, “the film will feature personal interviews with Russell and make use of the sprawling personal archives from the life and career of the five-time NBA MVP, 12-time All-Star and Olympic gold medalist,” per Jackson.

No word yet on when the documentary is planned for release, but check back in the near-term future for updates about this exciting new film.
