Gainesville has never been the most kind town in the SEC for Arkansas basketball. Thursday was no different.
The No. 18 Gators dispatched Arkansas, 76-67, to snap the Razorbacks’ two-game winning streak and send the Hogs to .500 in conference play this year. Arkansas has four games remaining in the regular season, including two against the teams directly ahead of them in the standings.
Arkansas actually shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor in the second quarter, but still lost the frame by nine points as Florida took a 14-point lead into the break. The biggest problem for the Razorbacks were turnovers. Florida scored 23 point off turnovers and outscored Arkansas 22-3 on the fast break.
Samara Spencer, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, led the Razorbacks with 19 points and shot 9 of 18 from the floor but Arkansas as a team was only 1 of 13 from 3-point range. Florida was 6 of 18, accounting for the difference in the final score.
Arkansas (16-9, 6-6) is back on the court Sunday at Bud Walton Arena against Kentucky (12-11, 5-8).
