New Sixers star James Harden says he plans to opt-in for 2022-23 season

New Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden says he plans to pick up his option for the 2022-23 season.

The Philadelphia 76ers made the big move at the deadline to acquire James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets at the deadline and there was an immediate report that he was going to opt-in to his contract for the 2022-23 season as he has a player option.

However, that report was refuted the next day as it became apparent that Harden did not complete the paperwork in time in order to opt-in to his deal. At the moment, that left his status for the 2022-23 season up in the air, but he cleared that up on Tuesday.

In his introductory press conference, Harden addressed what was going on with the deal and he wants to opt-in for the next season in Philadelphia.

“I still have the opportunity to do it,” said Harden. “Yes. Just everything happened so fast. I just wanted to get here and take my time, and most importantly, focus on the endgame and that’s winning a championship.”

The Sixers, at the moment, will still have to figure everything out as they move forward with the rest of the season and their championship hopes, but the big key is that it does appear that they will have Harden under contract with Embiid for 2023.
