Rough times have fallen upon both the Colorado men’s and women’s basketball teams. The two programs are a combined 5-12 since Jan. 13 during the heart of Pac-12 play.
While the men likely aren’t reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, the women still have a decent footing towards making their Big Dance. However, Colorado’s stature in the bracket has fallen from a once-projected No. 5 seed to a projected No. 10 in Charlie Creme’s latest ESPN Women’s Bracketology. That five-spot drop can be chalked up to CU’s recent 2-5 stretch that immediately followed its 13-0 start to the season.
Colorado, which lost in the NIT quarterfinals last season, may still need one or two more wins to qualify for its first NCAA Tournament since the 2012-13 season.
Buffs are 2-5 against teams currently projected in the 68-team field. They are 1-5 in Quad 1 games (home vs. Top 30 in NET, road vs. Top 75). Three of the last 6 regular-season games are Quad 1 opportunities for the #cubuffs

As BuffZone’s Brian Howell noted above, CU will have to prove itself through a difficult remaining schedule. JR Payne’s bunch embarks on a four-game road trip this week that includes California, Stanford, UCLA and USC. A two-game homestand against the Oregon schools will then close the regular season.
