On Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had interviewed three external candidates for their soon-to-be-vacant general manager position. Current GM Kevin Colbert plans to step down after the 2022 NFL draft.

Ryan Cowden (Tennessee Titans)

Ed Dodds (Indianapolis Colts)

JoJo Wooden (Los Angeles Chargers)

The Steelers have also interviewed Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt, both strong internal candidates from the Pittsburgh front office.

Colbert has been in charge of the Steelers in some capacity going all the way back to 2000 when he was hired as director of football operations. These interviews feel like window dressing as the team typically prefers to promote from within. The most Steelers thing to do is to hire either Khan or Hunt or better yet some shared position between the two of them.
