Sixers big man Andre Drummond addresses officiating from Wizards loss

Philadelphia 76ers big man Andre Drummond addresses the officiating in a loss to the Washington Wizards.

The Philadelphia 76ers had themselves a tough day on the road against the Washington Wizards on Monday as things did not go their way. They did not come out with the proper energy and they were down early in the game and they had some trouble mounting a comeback.

In that loss, the Sixers got into some foul trouble. Tobias Harris fouled out, Joel Embiid picked up four, and Andre Drummond had five fouls of his own off the bench. On top of that, Drummond and coach Doc Rivers picked up technical fouls in the game as they voiced their frustrations with the officiating.

Drummond is not a guy who normally will argue with an official too often, but he let his emotions get the best of him on Monday when picking up the tech. Although, it wasn’t like he was trying to really argue a call.

“I think, for me personally, the officials know me,” said Drummond. “I’ve been around for 10 years so when I talk to them, it’s never any type of aggression. I ask them ‘Are y’all having a bad day?’ like what’s going on? It’s never anything malicious or anything aggressive towards them. It’s always playful towards them.”

The officiating is always a controversial topic in the NBA due to the fact that there will be some missed calls. It just is what it is. However, when on the floor, the players cannot let that get to them. They have to be able to push through all of that and continue to play the right way.

“They’re never perfect,” Drummond added. “We’re never perfect. At the end of the day, we gotta play the game the best way we can and not allow the flow of the game to frustrate me a little bit with the way they were making those calls, but nothing I can do. I gotta just play and leave it alone.”
