Rumors of a Twisted Metal reboot began to swirl about last year, and Sony is reportedly handing the project off to a first-part studio.
According to a Video Games Chronicle (VGC) report from last fall, a reboot of the classic car-combat series was in development at Lucid Games, the studio responsible for Destruction All-Stars. However, VGC now claims that Sony is handing the project to one of its first-party studios in Europe.
The report doesn’t specify which of Sony’s European studios would handle Twisted Metal, though there’s no shortage of talented developers across the pond. Guerrilla Games, the studio behind Horizon Forbidden West, along with Housemarque, who brought us Returnal last year, are just a couple under Sony Europe’s umbrella.
Rumor: according to VGC sources, the Twisted Metal reboot will not be developed by Lucid (Destruction All-Stars) anymore

There’s been no official word on a Twisted Metal video game reboot yet, though a live-action TV adaptation is in the works from the same production studio working on Uncharted starring Tom Holland. Hopefully it doesn’t end up as a poor film adaptation.
If the reboot is indeed happening, it’ll likely end up as a big exclusive for the PS5. However, we won’t know for sure one way or another until Sony makes an official announcement of some kind.
