For the second consecutive season, it looks like Kansas City Chiefs front office executive Ryan Poles will interview for general manager jobs.
Last season, Poles interviewed twice for the Carolina Panthers GM vacancy. Now, he’s in line to interview for the New York Giants vacancy after GM Dave Gettleman announced his retirement from the NFL. According to CBS reporter Jonathan Jones, the Giants have formally requested an interview with Poles for their vacancy.
Poles survived three front-office regimes during his time with the Chiefs. He’s risen through the ranks during his career, originally getting his start as a scouting assistant under Scott Pioli. He’s since served in roles such as College Scouting Coordinator and Director of College Scouting under John Dorsey and Brett Veach, but now he holds the title of Executive Director of Player Personnel in Kansas City.
Per sources, the Giants have put in requests to interview Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen and Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles for their vacant GM position.

One reason why Poles might have some appeal for New York is that he played a big role in the Chiefs’ offensive line rebuild this past season. That’s been a big problem area for the Giants in recent seasons and one of the things halting their success in a relatively weak NFC East conference. Poles played a big part in the team’s decision to draft Creed Humphrey, who has been stellar in his first year with the team.
Poles is just the first front office executive to see an interview request in Kansas City. With multiple vacancies at the GM position throughout the league, expect others like Assistant GM Mike Borgonzi and VP of Football Operations Brandt Tilis to receive in interest.
