The Denver Broncos have asked the Dallas Cowboys permission to interview offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coach position, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported Monday.
Moore, 33, would be a candidate to replace former coach Vic Fangio, who was fired by the Broncos on Sunday.
Moore spent six years in the NFL as a quarterback with the Detroit Lions (2012-2014) and Cowboys (2015-2017) before transitioning to coaching in 2018. He began his coaching career with Dallas as a QBs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019.
Moore is an offensive-minded coach who might be able to help Denver’s struggling offense turn things around. Moore’s offense has averaged 31.2, 24.7 and 27.1 points per game over the last three years. The Broncos have averaged 19.7, 20.2 and 17.6 PPG during that same period.
Granted, Moore has obviously benefited from having Dak Prescott as his quarterback, but he is still considered a promising coach candidate nonetheless.
Denver has also requested interviews with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and New England Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo.
Because Dallas is in the playoffs, Moore would not be available to interview until next week.
