The Boston Celtics have announced that they have assigned big man Bruno Fernando and second-year small forward Aaron Nesmith to the (Portland) Maine Celtics (formerly, Red Claws) to get some reps in with the team’s G League affiliate.
Neither has had much luck in cracking Boston’s rotation, with COVID-19 and the irregular playing time both are getting likely not helping much in the way of developing the two young players. So, some time Down East might be just what Fernando and Nesmith need to get going after much of a season spent riding the pine with the parent club.
Nesmith in particular has seen his accuracy regress with less available playing time to build a rhythm, having fallen from putting up 4.7 points per game on 43.8% shooting and 37% from 3 to just 3.1 points per game on 34.4% shooting including just 23.4% from deep.
We have assigned Bruno Fernando and Aaron Nesmith to the @MaineCeltics.

Fernando has seen his opportunity crater since his first year in the league with the Atlanta Hawks, so the time up in Maine is a good move for the development opportunities of both players.
