Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been on a roll recently and it continued on Friday against the San Antonio Spurs at home. Facing a shorthanded Spurs team, Embiid went to work early and often on his way to 31 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in a 119-100 win at home.
It is the sixth straight win for Philadelphia and it’s the sixth straight game for Embiid where he has scored 30+ points. It is no coincidence that those two streaks have gone together as he is the big leader here in Philadelphia.
After the win, Embiid discusses the success he is having out on the floor and he gave credit to his teammates for getting the job done and helping him get it done out there.
“It’s been fun,” said Embiid. “We’re just playing as a team. These guys, they trust me, to make plays. Like I was telling them, it’s not about scoring, it’s about making the right play. Teams don’t play man anymore, they double, I still gotta find ways to stay aggressive and play through double teams, and get shots off.”
The Spurs did send a lot of aggressive double teams and Embiid was able to pick apart their defense with five assists in the first quarter. He finished with seven on the night which allowed him to get the team moving in the right direction on offense and it allowed him to get his easy points on the offensive end.
“At times, I gotta get my guys open and make their job easier,” Embiid finished. “I’m feeling OK. Like I said, I’m feeling better every single day. I’m getting better every single day so I just gotta keep on doing it and we gotta climb up the standings again. Like I said, it’s a result of sharing the ball and playing with each other, trusting each other, and making plays.”
