Nets-Pacers game ended with a horrible bad beat for Brooklyn bettors

This was brutal if you bet on the Nets.

Down by 19 points at one point, the Brooklyn Nets staged an impressive comeback in the second half to put away a road victory in Indianapolis on Wednesday night – but the final seconds of garbage time were infuriating for people who had bet on the Nets to cover the spread.

The Nets were favored by -8.5 points entering the game, per Tipico Sportsbook, meaning they needed to win by nine points to cover the spread. After outscoring the Pacers 35-18 in the fourth quarter, the Nets held a 129-119 lead with 30.9 seconds remaining following two made Pacers free throws.

Out of respect, the Nets simply held on to the ball and didn’t try to run up the score, taking a shot clock violation with 6.9 seconds remaining. That gave Indiana’s Ahmad Caver just enough time to drive for a relatively uncontested layup that reduced the margin of victory to eight points – just enough for all the Nets -8.5 bettors to lose.
