The Detroit Lions have missed having Jared Goff at quarterback in the last two games. It turns out Goff has really missed being on the field for the team, too.
Even with the team floundering to the end of a season where Detroit sits at 2-13-1, Goff thinks it’s very important to get back in the lineup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 18. And he will be if his wounded knee allows it.
“Yeah, it’s very important to me. I want to be out there,” Goff told reporters on Wednesday. “Ultimately, it’s kind of not up to me. It’s up to where my knee is at, but I really do want to be out there. I said it earlier in the week, I’d be pretty disappointed if I wasn’t able to make it happen. Yeah, really do want to be out there.”
He injured the knee in the team’s 30-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15, the best game of the season for both Goff and the entire team. The injury did not get better even after a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list that cost him the Week 16 matchup with Atlanta.
Goff described the injury as “a bone bruise” and noted it’s all about “pain management and avoiding any setbacks.” He did manage to be a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice session.
If Goff can’t play, Tim Boyle will get a crack at playing the Packers team where he spent the 2020 season as Aaron Rodgers’ primary backup.
